▌Artwork Introduction

The two works presented in this exhibition, Reverberations at Altitude 2000 and Song of the Russet Sparrow, explore the possibilities of coexistence between humans, animals, and the natural environment in the mountainous areas of Chiayi through different approaches.

Reverberations at Altitude 2000 employs mystical methodologies to communicate with a woodpecker specimen from the Japanese colonial period, tracing the forest it once inhabited. Through this process of searching, the work delves into the history of forest development.

Song of the Russet Sparrow integrates Cou mythology with environmental conservation. It involves collaborating with Cou children to create ceramics using sediment from the Zengwen Reservoir, the primary habitat of the endangered mountain sparrow. Half of these ceramics function as sound installations within the art world, while the other half are transformed into artificial nests and placed in the mountain sparrow's habitat for their use, embodying a shared space between humans and animals through art.

The title Sen Sen(森森) refers both to the forested high-altitude environment where the works take place and to the notion of continuity and vitality. This exhibition seeks to reimagine the relationship between humans and animals across past, present, and future, ultimately proposing art as a form of social engagement that fosters profound connections with animals.
