▌Artwork Introduction

RESTand. Iron, wood, pigment, street light, plant. Diameter: 3.2 m, height: 3.9 m. 2023

RESTand resembles a tiny hill in the woods. In its embrace are small trees and verdant plants that usher in the passers-by for a brief break. Inside, the gentle light cascading through the perforations at the top of this hill shines on “humans” and “trees,” immersing them in restful tranquility and an interplay of light and shadow – this is a moment purposefully crafted by RESTand. Integrating architecture, space, sculpture, and installation, this work offers a resting site for one’s spirit while exploring diverse possibilities of interaction between object and man.

▌About the Artist|LI Cheng-Liang

LI Cheng-Liang (b. 1986, Keelung) received his MFA from the Department of New Media Art, Taipei National University of the Arts in 2013. In the early period, LI co-founded “Fuxinghen Studio” with his friends to collectively explore creative collisions in a nonsensical approach that generates new possibilities for artistic creation. He works with various media by integrating handcraft with ideas to develop an idiosyncratic aesthetic that harmonizes art and craft. This enables him to find suitable looks for his materials that match the plastic forms of objects and the spatial environment, with an emphasis on the present moments in life to provide annotations for living conditions.
