▌Artwork Introduction
Cyan Bird - The Posture of Flying, Stainless steel axle, motor, FRP, acrylic pigment, electronic control device. 2019-2023.
Using contemporary technology as an extension of artistic creation, this work captures geometric data of flying birds to generate 3D images and creates the form of a flying bird utilizing high-end 3D printing technology. It transforms technology into lightweight yet resilient wings and combines a motorized control module that allows minute adjustments of speed to delineate the dynamics of flying. To the artist, the cyan bird flying in the sky is a symbol of “ideals” as well as freedom and courage. With this work, he hopes to encourage people to face challenges and embrace wonderful visions and expectations for the future.
▌About the Artist|YU Shih-Fu
A kinetic, mechanical, and installation artist, YU Shih-Fu (b. 1987, Taichung) received his MFA in New Media Art from Taipei National University of the Arts in 2013. In his practice, he has continuously focused on applying mechanical manufacturing and processing techniques to artistic creation. His work inquires deeply into the dynamics of the cosmos and its hidden meanings. Combining human sensibility with cold mechanical components, he refines industrial technologies into an art form informed by dynamic beauty while exploring the production of aesthetics in an era of digital manufacturing.
