Five Hundred Lemon Trees: HUANG Po-Chih Solo Exhibition

Five Hundred Lemon Trees is an agricultural brand that Huang Po-Chih has created and gradually developed by bringing together various resources of the art world. 

In the beginning of 2013, he used an exhibition at an art museum as a fundraising platform, and successfully recruited five hundred subscribers to pre-purchase a green wine label. The funding then went to revitalize three lots of abandoned farmland in Hsinchu and Taoyuan. Five hundred lemon trees were planted there to make limoncello, which would later become the reciprocation to the subscribers. In 2016, Huang invited the subscribers back to the museum and gave each of them a bottle of limoncello to realize the promise made two years ago and completed his own practice—a budding dream of transforming agriculture, writing and brewing into art. 

In this exhibition, Huang displays the multifaceted imagination and development of Five Hundred Lemon Trees in the form of a bar, publications, a documentary and various documents, and invites audience to read, experience, taste (an exclusive session for Taishin employees) and dive into the touching stories recorded during the five-year span of the project.

Artist / HUANG Po-Chih

Born in Taoyuan, Taiwan in 1980, Huang Po-Chih graduated from the Graduate School of Art and Technology, Taipei National University of the Arts. In his diversified artistic practice, he has focused on issues of production, agriculture, manufacturing and consumption and explored the political and socio-economic aspects of these issues. Huang has been nominated for the Taishin Arts Award and Hugo Boss Asia Art Award, and has been awarded the First Prize of the Taipei Arts Award.
