The King Kong Looks for Love

The King Kong Is Searching for His Love, Passion Fueled With Spring Blossoms Growing Over Its Head __ by Akibo Lee

Akibo’s recent art works have been much related to the robots.  In 2008, he creates a big friend “King Kong”.  Instead of choosing glass fiber, steel frame, or LED often seen in his previous works, he applies the black iron as the creative medium this time.  The initiative is inspired on an occasion when he organizes his old sketches and drafts.  He finds that the hand-drawing lines in the sketches are so compelling beyond interpretation with the 3D digital mediums he is used to, thus to discover the black iron to be the ideal material.

The image of King Kong is outlined by using a writing brush and hollow-carved into the iron plates, then assembled with the large-sized screws.  The rigidity of black iron plates against the airiness of lines creates a splendid synergy.  It is an interesting contrast between the heavy black iron and the ornamenting lines.  Akibo amplifies his talent in animamix art to construct a small yet solid universe, inviting the viewers into the world of a story and a game.  Composed with elegantly yet wild contours, “The King Kong looks for love” implicitly reveals the artist’s feeling and thought toward the surroundings.

The King Kong is also accompanied by several entourages, small monkeys named “Ho Ho”.  Together, they are about to tell you a virtually romantic fantasy.

Akibo Lee

Designer, Artist

Akibo has brought his artistic influence to the pop music industry in Taiwan with his remarkable packaging designs.  He has designed the music albums for some of Taiwan’s most popular singers such as Bobby Chen, Wu Bai, Lo Da Yu, and A-Mei.  On the other hand, he is also active in creating digital art works, with exhibitions touring Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, New York, etc.  In recent years, Akibo’s robot series cross over the pure art creation to commercial brands, performing arts and public arts.  With the sci-fi sensation, grass-root awareness and excessively gorgeousness, his works always yield a fascinating style of its own kind.
