Taishin Bank Volunteers Initiative

The Paper-windmill Foundation launched its “319 First mile - kid’s smile” project in 2006, the idea is to perform its classic play “Fantasia” for children living in rural areas. They plan to visit all 319 rural towns and villages in Taiwan in order to provide these children the pleasure to watch plays just like the urban children enjoy.

Taishin Culture and Arts Foundation recognizes the 319 spirit and sponsored a session in the Hsinchu County (Bao-shan town). This decision inspired the Taishin Bank staff and established a volunteer’s club to offer its service to the community.

The volunteers shared their first experience with San-fong Elementary school – a small school with only 33 students and 12 staff altogether. San-fond is nestled upon hills; it is blessed with natural resources but too far away to benefit from other extra curriculum resources.

The club members first called for other colleagues to donate second-hand books and stationery, on the 18th they visited San-fong to spend a day with the children before watching the play together in the evening. The volunteers’ passion and kindness were felt through out the whole day, in exchange; the children had wide smiles on their faces, and by seeing how happy the children were was most rewarding to the volunteers.
