New Taiwanese Opera-The Venetian Twins
Zephyropera Group
Artwork Introduction
The production is fully demonstrated its fundament spirit of the “O-pei-a-hi” (outdoor Taiwanese opera), which is lively, festive, and welcoming, with the impressive creativity. The rock'n roll live band blending with traditional music ensemble; the pop tunes singing along with traditional Taiwanese Opera; the modern characters in Cosplay style replacing the original Takarazuka-theater dress-up and the samurai sword in the old “O-pei-a-hi”. The common nature of Taiwanese Opera and Italian comedy ensures the delightful and joyous combination. The performers' skillful singing and acting also successfully gasp the spirit of the production.(Committee member/ Ho-yi LIN)
About the Artist
Formosa-Zephyr Taiwanese Opera Troupe was founded in the summer of 2003 by graduates from National Taiwan University and Teacher's University. Devoted to Taiwanese opera, these dedicated performers sought to develop a new vision for the traditional art form.
By combining the historical forms of Taiwanese opera with new aesthetics, the group aims to instill passion in new and young audiences. The group's performances also educate as the costume design and music style reflect Japanese colonial rule and the Taiwan of the twentieth century. Not only does the group pass down traditions of Taiwanese opera, but it also challenges and innovates.
