A Dream Like A Dream

Performance Workshop

Comments on the Finalist

Comments from the Review Committee:Perhaps the longest modern drama in Taiwan, this work is concerned with the "epic of life," which is enacted amid a profound interaction between the spatial forms of the stage and a subtle humanistic atmosphere.  Director Stan Lai employs the expressive style of "environmental theater," whereby actors continually change their positions in a clockwise manner, propelling the plot around the seated audience and sequentially sharing interrelated stories.  It mirrors the long journey of life and art, taking the audience along in the endless quest for life's answers as they are embodied in birth, aging, sickness and death.  The ritualistic acts of artistic creation and appreciation highlight the work's significance within this year's panorama of Taiwanese contemporary performing arts.  (By Mei-ying YANG)
