In this solo exhibition, CHOU conveys the cross-cultural experience using concise image vocabulary. She is also concerned with the problems of flow and mixing of groups of people, identity and cultures in the globalization process, displaying cultural topic handling ability and vision that is rare amongst the young generation of Taiwan artists. CHOU's creative experience ranks as special amongst new generation artists in Taiwan. She has not received any formal art school training but has a rich cultural academic background.She has frequently traveled overseas in recent years as a resident artist. She uses cross-cultural experiences as the basis of her works, which is rare amongst Taiwanese artists. --By Chi-ming LIN



Artwork Introduction

Julie Chou conveyed her cross-cultural experiences and paid attention to questions about the flow and fusion among peoples, identities and cultures that occur in the process of globalization. This demonstrated an ability and vision unusual among the new generation of Taiwan artists in addressing a cultural agenda. In recent years, she has worked as an artist in residence and based her creation on the cross-culture experience, which is also unusual among local artists in Taiwan.



Julie CHOU

Julie CHOU graduated from the Department of History, National Taiwan Normal University. She worked in themedia, now she is a translator and artist. She hastranslated "White", "Black," "Blue", "Yellow", "Purple', "The Lost World of the Kalihari", "The Island of LostMaps""The Inside-Outside Book of Libraries". She leads a quiet life but regularly participates in "Shin Leh Yuan Art Space" art exhibitions. In addition to taking part in many Shin Leh Yuan joint exhibitions, she has also held solo exhibitions there and at Huashan Art Space. She was also selected for the CCA global talent nurturing plan in 2004.
