Shy Gong
Comments on the Finalist
This exhibition is one man’s meditation on the contemporary experience. Departing from his multiple-cultural background, the artist combined folk elements with interactive mechanism to create a new cosmos full of chaotic energy. His practice of cross-disciplinary works showed, in parallel, the imaginary world and the reality, a political forum and a playground, cynicism and earthy entertainment; which brilliantly criticized the current social and political climate. This exhibition has broken museum’s conventional image and connected the audience to the contemporary arts through a humorous way that has created a new social communication interface as well as demonstrated an unlimited pursue on the arts.
Artwork Introduction
The rich content and lively form of this exhibition embodied Shy Gong’s dissident character as an artist, holonomic aesthetic perspectives, and his specific line of creations and exhibitions that stressed social intervention. Shy Gong made a sign abstraction and clear-trace display of his action arts made in the past years, mainly street exhibitions and performances, constructed a ritualistic field that could respond to the palace feature of the museum.
