Michael Li, the director, dressed all the characters in contrasting costumes of the ancient and the modern so as to turn the story of Norma into a three-dimensional structure. And his “effortless” approach to the opera against its tragic and heavy mood subtly presented the story and, at the same time, added to the significance of this epoch-making performance. Through the superb vocalists, Tai-li Chu, Chong-boon Liau and Yi-lin Hsu dedicated this work of perfect bel canto to us.
