By locating the soft and faraway Kun-opera language of performance into the narrative time and space of modern theater, transforming lines and lyrics into interesting visual counterparts, Willow Dreams of Plum from Peony Pavilion presented the beauty of elegance, simplicity and smoothness. At the same time, the comical-collage approach to the traditional Kun-opera preserved its original style as much as granted it a modern interpretation, which made it something fresh and new among all the creations in Taiwan’s experimental theater. This was indeed a starting point worthy of our encouragement.
