Comments on the Finalist

The assembled artists were highly mature.They were looking for the poetics of modern technology and trying to connect it with traditional Chinese aesthetics. The concept behind the exhibition was both experimental and developmental, embodying to a certain degree the present application of technology in arts. Supported by the resource system of private museums, the show presented the agenda that the planners have long be concerned with and represented unique meanings in the world of art.

Artwork Introduction

"Simulation─The Poetics of Imaging in the Technology Age" is the exhibition organized by Chia Chi Jason Wang at the invitation of Hong-gah Museum to celebrate the fourth anniversary of opening the museum. This exhibition aims to continue the tradition of the past three anniversaries. That is to integrate the artistic theory with the practice so as to present the development path of art in Taiwan. Those artists and their works which vigorously depict issues related to technology, art, humanity etc. are the targets this exhibition wants to include.

By means of this exhibition on a flourishing creative sector, Wang provides a venue for the visitors to witness the interaction between technology and art and to contemplate the future of arts and humanities. In conclusion, this exhibition discloses the contemporary viewpoint towards art and technology. In the exhibition, the poetic aspect of technology is explored, and the traditional concept is also re-interpreted, which not only corresponds to Wang’s style, but also implicitly reveals his firm belief in artistic concepts and the value of aesthetics. Although there are not many works presented in the exhibition, however, the characteristics of each piece of work has successfully manifest the theme of this exhibition and embodies the underlying artistic theories.(By J.J.Shih)

About the Artist

For the recognition of Taishin Arts Award received by “Simulation─The Poetics of Imaging in the Technology Age”, a special thanks goes to the program manager Mr. Chia Chi Jason Wang for his organized and competent planning of everything, and the artists for their superb works. Their works are a retrospective presentation of Hong-gah Museum in the past four years, which clearly records the development of Taiwanese art history and surely will lead us to a new phase. We will keep on coming up with much more enlightening presentation for everyone...
