Smoke
Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan
Comments on the Finalist
Successfully combining still installations and floating images of slides on the stage, Smoke displays the dark and unknown hidden inside with its refined structure and poetic atmosphere
Its proficient integration of theatrical elements, such as the design of lighting to create spiritual aroma around and the use of installations and images to construct multiple spatial imaginations, resolves the problem of transition of time and space in dance performances.
It is a rarity focusing on the development of movement techniques among Cloud Gate Dance Theater’s recent works. It transforms the techniques of ballet and Tai-Chi Dow-Ing to a physical language of humanity, aestheticism, feelings, and fun. Fulfilled with tension and affection, the movements reveal the extraordinary talent of dancers of a new generation.
