Angharad WYNNE-JONES << Back
Angharad Wynne-Jones was born in Chicago, is of Welsh heritage and lived in Australia for 17 years. Trained in theatre at Dartington, she co-founded Industrial and Domestic Theatre Contractors, before joining the ICA in London as a theatre producer.

In 1989 she moved to Sydney and formed Cake Eaters Productions, a performance company specialising in large-scale site-specific events. In 1994 she became Director of the Performance Space, producing a range of multidisciplinary events including the food and performance festival - A Progressive Dinner, a festival celebration of Pacific visual and performance culture - Pacific Wave, and the international dance festival- Antistatic.

In 1998 she (as Executive Producer) and Gideon Obarzanek established Melbourne based Chunky Move, a performance company, presenting innovative dance events in theatres and clubs. Angharad joined Peter Sellars as Associate Director in the 2002 Adelaide Festival, and established an international independent production house, risingtide-productions in 2004. She was appointed Director of Lift in April 2005, where she has led a process of change with an innovative project – The Lift – the creation of a new mobile venue for the 21st century.

Throughout her career she has been motivated by the desire to create, produce and present art and culture that is socially transformative and engages new audiences and participants. She strongly supports collaborative processes in the making of art and in the operating of organisations.
